Winter in the Ötztal means getting active and getting out and about. You can go skiing in one of the six ski resorts – notably Sölden, Gurgl and Hochoetz. But perfect conditions for classic or skate skiing also await you in the cross-country skiing paradise of Niederthai, above Umhausen.

For anyone wishing to set off without skis, there are countless hiking trails – starting right from the hotel and stretching as far as your legs will carry you. Whether with a dog, on snowshoes or with a sledge in tow. There are several toboggan runs in the Ötztal valley, accessible either on foot or via a lift. There are also rustic alpine huts where you can stop for a bite to eat.

Since 2025, the Ice Park Umhausen has provided another highlight – a 330-metre-long ice rink complete with lighting. For evening laps on the ice not far from the Hotel Johanna.

Yes, the Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road in particular is one of the most beautiful routes in the Alps.

How far away is the AQUA DOME?

The AQUA DOME spa in Längenfeld is about 10 km away from our hotel in the Ötztal and can be reached in around 10 minutes by car or bus.

What are the main attractions in Umhausen?

Popular attractions and places of interest in Umhausen include the Stuibenfall – Tyrol’s largest waterfall – the Ötzi Village and the Greifvogelpark.
