THIS IS OUR STORY.
For over 4 decades we, the Auer family and our team, have been managing the Hotel Johanna. Yet we have been known for our hospitality and zest for life for much longer. After all, everything that is linked with happiness and satisfaction, has its origins right here. Not far from our hotel, at Erlanger Hütte at Grandma Maria’s. 2250 metres above sea level, right in the middle of the Ötztal Alps, in 1931. It was here that she made history – hers and ours – becoming the first Alpine lodge landlady. A few years later she and her husband Robert converted the old bakery down in the valley into a cosy guest-house, laying the foundation stone for our hotel.
The years passed and the little guest-house in Umhausen became a popular destination and it was with tradition and commitment that nephew Christian Senior and his wife Annemarie took over the hotel and the catering side, and gave our Johanna its name. Together they created a treasured retreat for guests from all over the world and as pioneers of genuine hospitality, even back then they brought together nature, pleasure and a zest for life to create a gem that we still nurture to this day. We being Christian, Katja and Sissi. A small, familial team that has found its calling – to change, to make an impact and to bring all that together to what is dear to our heart. Nature, people we love and that feeling of having arrived.
Christian
He learned the craft of cooking from his father. The art of creating good food he learned day after day from nature – with an instinct for what is good.
Katja
Warmth is in her nature. She is right at home here, a mum three times over, hostess with heart and soul, bringing together what belongs: family, heart and a meaning to life.
Sissi
With a zest for life, the right intuition for creative processes and Reception dog Rosie, she welcomes our guests, brings the focus to the back office and balance to the team.
